Weight Loss ProgramWhy Lose Weight?

No doubt you already know the answer to that question.  In addition to looking terrific, losing even a small amount of excess weight can have a significant impact on your overall health.  For example, losing weight can help you:

If you’re like most of us, you’ve spent the better part of the last several years, maybe longer, struggling to get to your ideal weight. You are not alone.  In this country, 2 out of 3 people are overweight – a statistic that is climbing with each passing year.  So, what are we doing wrong?

To varying degrees, we have all been consuming the Modern American Diet - the diet that leads to modern American diseases like heart disease, stroke and diabetes.  Over 90% of our grocery store shelves are lined with sugary, processed, chemically laden, packaged food.

So What is the Solution?

At Dr. Dan’s, we promote a traditional diet of whole, nutrient dense food grown, prepared and eaten the way Mother Nature intended, a stark contrast to the modern diet mentioned above.

Our patients report significantly improved health when they transition from a modern diet to a traditional diet and stay with it on an ongoing basis. 

Unfortunately, a traditional diet will not produce rapid weight loss results in the near term for those needing to shed a lot of excess weight. Numerous studies show that the sooner one’s weight begins to drop, the sooner their risk factors for disease drop accordingly.

To address this, we have developed a program to help our patients see and feel the benefits of weight loss faster than ever before.

The Dynamic Weight Loss Program is intended to reset your metabolism over 12 weeks while helping you to safely lose at least 12-20 lbs.  If you have more weight to lose, you can repeat the program as often as needed.

Weight LossOnce our patients shed their excess weight we encourage them to transition to a traditional diet to maintain their weight and safeguard their health.

Dr. Dan’s Dynamic Weight Loss Program

The Dynamic Weight Loss Program was designed to help you lose weight quickly  and to significantly improve your cardiac profile resulting in:

  • Lower BP and Cholesterol
  • Increased HDL, Decreased LDL
  • Lower Triglycerides

All new patients begin the program with a complete Nutrition Response Testing Health Evaluation to determine if any underlying hormonal imbalances exist (thyroid, insulin, etc.) that could impede your weight loss success.

Healthy EatingIf imbalances are detected, Dr. Dan will suggest ways to remedy the hormonal imbalance to ensure your best possible scenario for weight loss success.

At your second appointment, our Nutrition Counselor will review your meal plan, introduce you to our Healthy Steps Exercise Program, take some basic measurements and perform a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis to determine your starting muscle, fat and water composition levels.  She will also answer any questions you may have about the program.

You’ll then be off and running!

Weight LossThe program includes brief weekly visits with our Nutrition Counselor to track your progress, answer any questions that have come up during the previous week and help you stay motivated toward reaching your goal weight.

Prior to beginning your program, we recommend you request Cholesterol Panel Testing from your Primary Care Physician, including an LP Plac Test, CRP-HS and A1C test.  This will determine your starting cardiac profile.  You will repeat this testing at the conclusion of your program to determine your progress.

I was very happy when Dr. Dan started his weight loss program and immediately switched over from Weight Watchers.   Unlike Weight Watchers with the Paleo Diet you don't have to worry about the portions so much and the calories.  I find it very easy to follow and even when I go out to eat it's easy to stick with it.  I have lost 15 pounds and if I would excerise more I'm sure it would even be more. My record reads:  Obese woman, 50 plus, post menopausal.  After being unable to lose weight for more than 15 years I had pretty much given up on the idea that I would ever be able to lose weight.  I found some new clothes, I was working through Dr. Dan's guidelines making healthier food choices, and I made my peace with it.  But then last fall I decided to listen to Dr. Dan's talk on weight loss since everything else he had given to me worked so well.

During the talk, Dr. Dan, who generally is quiet spoken, said adamantly that the weight has to come off!  And that the carbs have to be curtailed!  I have to tell you I was terrified about this because it was just another change in my already gluten/soy/dairy/nut free life and I really just could not imagine giving up another thing.  But after a year of having my life patiently restored with Dr. Dan's treatments I knew that the weight was the last hurdle I had to face.  My sister called and told me, "Kristen, you won't die!"   That was the blast of courage I needed to jump in headlong and I started 2 days before Thanksgiving and I have lost weight and inches every week since.  

The diet takes some planning and forethought but I meet with Emily every week and she goes over my eating chart and answers all my questions.  I am not hungry, I can eat whatever I want within the guidelines but the best part is that the results are instant!  I just see myself shrinking before my eyes and it is truly amazing.

At Dr. Dan's talk I learned weight loss is a physiological, not behavioral issue. It totally made sense to me! It has been a process cutting down carbohydrates. Now I am on the Atkins diet (no sugars, no carbs) for three months and I feel fantastic without carbs! No cravings at all. I experience good fats really make a difference.

The weekly check-ins give me the structure I need staying on track. Sara's advice is very helpful. I like to focus on something new each week, e.g. more protein, new good fats or having a meal / snack the same time each day every 3-4 hours.
